TACLOBAN – Lightning brought about by heavy downpour struck in Purok 1, Barangay Capoocan in Calbayog City, burning 14 houses made of light materials Thursday afternoon (June 6), reports reaching this city said.

Calbayog City Central Fire Station investigation disclosed that the fire started when lightning struck the roof of the house of Donna Ecal.
Fire Officer 3 Roy Marquez, the investigator said that heavy rains came accompanied by severe thunderstorm that afternoon, but not even the downpour could help stop the spread of fire in the community.
The fire started at around 2:50 p.m. reaching second alarm and was declared out at 3:38 p.m.
Estimated structural damage reached P270,000.
Seven fire trucks, including those from the neighboring town of Sta. Margarita, Samar, helped in putting out the fire.
No one was reported injured during the incident.
