Inting’s assumption to office completed the composition in the 15-member court.
His appointment by President Duterte last Monday was a promotion from his former post as associate justice of the Court of Appeals (CA) where he served for almost seven years.
Before his CA post, Inting was a senior corporate attorney in the National Housing Authority (NHA), senior CA supervising staff attorney, a lawyer attorney at the Public Attorney's Office (PAO), an assistant city public prosecutor, and a judge of both the metropolitan trial court and the regional trial court.
He hails from Davao City and finished his law degree from the Ateneo de Davao.
Inting took over the post left by Bersamin who was promoted Chief Justice last November.
Duterte has so far named 10 Supreme Court appointees, seven of whom -- including Bersamin – are incumbent magistrates.
Before Bersamin, the President had appointed Chief Justice Teresita J. Leonardo de Castro, who has since retired.
He had also appointed the now retired Associate Justices Samuel Martires who assumed the post of Ombudsman, and Noel Tijam, who retired last January.
His other appointees were Associate Justices Andres B. Reyes Jr., Alexander G. Gesmundo, Jose C. Reyes Jr., Ramon Paul L. Hernando, Rosmari D. Carandang, and Amy C. Lazaro Javier – all incumbents.
Four incumbent Supreme Court magistrates are retiring this year – Associate Justices Mariano C. del Castillo, on July 29, and Francis H. Jardeleza, on Sept. 26; Bersamin, on Oct. 18; and Senior Associate Justice Antonio T. Carpio on Oct. 26.
By early 2020, President Duterte is expected to have appointed 10 incumbent Supreme Court justices, a super majority in the tribunal.
The curt has yet to announce a re-organization in its three divisions following the assumption to office of Inting.
It will resume sessions in both the divisions and the full court next week after a month-long decision-writing period.
