Senator-elect Pia Cayetano wants issue on Imee Marcos' educational background resolved

If it was up to Senator-elect Pia Cayetano, the issue on co-administration Senate bet Imee Marcos’s educational background should once and for all be resolved.

(HNP / MANILA BULLETIN) "I've been a champion of education and I feel that should be dealt with as sincerely as possible because we are talking to the youth about the importance of education and we do have issues pa rin nung nabibili sa Recto (…(diplomas) that can be bought from Recto)," said in an interview over ANC’s Headstart. During the campaign period, the issue on Imee’s educational background came up wherein she was accused of lying. In response to the accusation Marcos showed a photo of her supposed graduation rites. Marcos is seen in the said photo wearing a toga along with other people also clad in the same attire. The UP Executive Vice President, Teodoro Herbosa in an interview by GMA News, clarified that Marcos took “non degree courses” from the UP College of Arts and Sciences from 1976-77. There are no records from the UP Registrar’s Office that would indicate that Marcos indeed graduated from UP. "I do feel that issue should be resolved and dealt with candidly and not brushed aside," Cayetano further said. During this time that Marcos’s school credentials was questioned, honesty became one of the hot topic among voters after some of the candidates and those involved in the campaign claimed that it was not an important trait. Cayetano has already served two terms as Senator from 2004 to 2016 while Marcos is a first-timer in the Senate.
