By Ali Macabalang MARAWI CITY – Descendants of the late Sultan Alauya Alonto, the country’s first Maranao senator, have dominated the top elective posts in Lanao del Sur in the just concluded midterm polls, but not without protests from their defeated rivals who are now combining their forces to complain about alleged frauds ranging from vote-buying to ballots pre-shading. The four are third and fourth-generation progenies of the Late Senator Alauya Alonto. Bombit, who is outgoing vice governor and a former three-term governor, outvoted by over 190,000 vote-margins seven rivals, among them - Guiling Mamondiong, President Duterte’s anointed bet and resigned director general of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority; business and religious sector leader Agakhan “Binladen” Sharief; Hatta Dimaporo, son of Ali Dimaporo; and Sultan Boby Datimbang. Bombit’s son, Mujam defeated by over 140,000-votes six veteran rivals, among them –Abu Muhammad Sarangani; Mansawi Mimbalawag; and his own grand uncle Norodin Alonto-Lucman. Hooky, a former Muslim Mindanao Regional Governor and a current two-term Congressman, won reelection in the province’s first district with close to 90,000 votes over former Muslim Mindanao Assemblyman Fiat Macarambon, and Ansarudin Lucman-Moner. In the 2nd district, Bombit’s first cousin, Yasser Alionto-Balindong defeated by slim margins fellow outgoing Muslim Mindanao Assemblymen Froxy Macarambon and Abo Alam Padata; his uncle Haroun Al-Rashid Alonto-Lucman Jr., a former ARMM Vice Governor; and incumbent Rep. Mautag Papandayan Jr. In Marawi City, incumbent Mayor Majul Gandmra won reelection over eight rivals, including Khomeini Taha, son of Social Welfare Region 12 Director Sorayda Taha; former City Mayor Omar “Solitario” Ali; Mayan Basman; Jonaira Conding; Ismael Naga Jr.; Meno Manabilang; Casan Labay; and Pundug Laguindab. The city vice mayoral race has been won by Mayor Gandamra’s running-mate Aouar Abdulrauf, who outvoted Coco Salic, a relative of former city Mayor Fahad “Pre” Salic, local journalist Maulana Mamutuk, Kasarungan Marabur, and Sahruddin Marhum. Gandamra and Abdulraof have allied forces with the Alonto-Adiong team in the recent midterm elections. But the alliance has been met with accusations of alleged mass vote-buying involving as much as 6,000 pesos per vote for a package of three to four elective posts. During the campaign period, a group of retired military and police officers, backed by former regional State Prosecutor Salic Dumarpa, submitted a report to President Duterte and other concerned agencies, complaining about alleged mass vote-buying. Last Friday, all losing candidates in the provincial and city electoral contests converged in Marawi City to denounce anew alleged frauds, including the purported pre-shading of ballots in some areas. They presented videos and photos of alleged members of the board of election inspectors doing the arbitrary acts. “The right to suffrage died last May 13 in Lanao del Sur,” said Ali Mindalano, former administrator of the Southern Philippine Development Authority, in a Facebook post Friday.
