La Salle college student found dead in Batangas

By Lyka Manalo LIPA CITY, Batangas — A fourth-year college student of De La Salle Lipa was found dead inside her residence Friday. Police said she could be a victim of rape-slay. Police identified the victim as Fidex Therese Maranan, 21, whose body was found naked on the floor and covered with a blanket. Romulo Maranan, the victim’s relative, found Fidex’s body at her residence in Lourdes St., Miracle Heights Subdivision, Brgy. Antipolo del Norte, this city at around 3:30 p.m. P/Lt. Col. Ramon Balauag, city police chief, said the victim, who might have been dead for three days, was raped before she was killed, based on the autopsy results. Balauag said the victim sustained a stab wound in the neck and there are signs that the suspect dragged her head. Police are conducting further investigation to identify the suspect. The victim was the niece of Monsignor Ruben Dimaculangan, parish priest of St. Therese Parish in Talisay,Lipa. According to Father Nonie Dolor, a former local radio station manager, Fidex was an orphan. Msgr. Dimaculangan and his brother, Fr. Quiel Dimaculangan provide for Fidex. The victim was living alone while the two priests were on their assignments.
