IMUS CITY, Cavite --Adrian Jay ("AJ" ) Advincula, a first-timer, topped the 12-man council post in this historical capital city.
Advincula was proclaimed recently by City Commission on Elections Officer Armando C. Vencilao along with incumbent Mayor Emmanuel Leonardo Maliksi, Vice Mayor Arnel M. Cantimbuhan, and the 11 other elected councilors.
The young and simple Advincula, of PDP-Laban, got a total of 107,057 votes, the highest in the city's May 13 elections.
Advincula, 24, is a son of 3rd District (Imus) Representative Alex "AA" Advincula who was unopposed in the race.
Observers said that the record-breaking win of AJ was borne out of the father and son's humility and bonding and goodness and kindness to their constituents and their good family and beginnings.
AA has been a garbage collector, firm janitor, and gravel-and-sand truck driver before he became a successful businessman and public servant. He was a topnotch three-term councilor in Imus and provincial board member before he became a congressman.
With his proclamation at the Provincial Capitol, AA is now on his third and final term as congressman.
"AJ is just like his father. AJ now and AA then as a topnotch councilor," Imus City Treasurer Manuel Reynold W. de la Fuente told this reporter.
Evelyn Dolatre Calderon, a long-time city resident said: "The people love them (AA and AJ) as they are simple and humble and they tend to people. They are an example of good father-and-son."
AJ remained humble with his proclamation as councilor-elect.
For a start in the council, AJ said he is eyeing to work with his colleagues on resolutions and legislation that concerns the youth, the elderly and families and that he will continue the welfare undertakings, healthcare missions and other well-being actions in the field.
"I wish to be part of committees that concerns the youth, as well as sports, the elderly and families," AJ said.
The youth comprises 60 percent of the population in Imus and that many elderly in the city, particularly the poor, need medical attention.
Aside from AJ, the 11 others councilors-elect proclaimed are Larry Boy Nato, Lloyd Emman Jaro, both of PDP-Laban; Argel Joseph Reyes, L.A. Deocadis, both Liberal Party; Vince Amposta (PDP-Laban), Darlon Sayarot (LP), Egay Saquilayan, a brother of opposition leader Homer Saquilayan; Raymond Arguelles, Totie Ropeta (both PDP-Laban), Emilio "Miong" Aguinaldo V and Tito Monzon (LP).
The Imus PDP-Laban and LP led by Advincula and Maliksi, respectively, have joined forces just before the filing of certificates of candidacies last October to keep the members of the two parties in the administration intact and stay united in keeping the developments in the city.
The unity team was made also to keep the young and veteran members of the two parties and the constituents going in terms of performance and accomplishments.
Mayor Maliksi, who is on his third and final term, renewed the call for unity and performance among political leaders and the citizens for the city's peace and progress."Let us unite and work for the city's developments and progress," he said.
