Robredo thanks 'Otso Diretso' for being an inspiration to the people

Vice President Ma. Leonor “Leni” Robredo waxed nostalgic about opposition Otso Diretso candidates for putting up a good fight in the 2019 senatorial race.

Robredo had nothing but good words for the eight senatorial bets. She thanked them for being an inspiration to the people.
“It was and always will be an honor and a privilege to fight for and with you. Thank you for inspiring us to have the courage to stand our ground and hold on to what is right,” she said on her Facebook account.
Her post was accompanied by a photo of the Otso Diretso candidates during their May 8 thanksgiving concert, which she also attended at the UP Sunken Garden in Quezon City.
Robredo also appreciated the support of her hometown that delivered votes for all Otso Diretso candidates in the recently concluded midterm elections.
“Thank you, Naga City,” she said in another post.
All of the opposition bets secured a spot in the top 12, with reelectionist Senator Bam Aquino topping the list in Naga City with 56,914 votes, followed by Mar Roxas and Chel Diokno, with 47,389 and 43,751 votes, respectively.
Marawi civic leader Samira Gutoc obtained 42,603 votes, Magdalo Rep. Gary Alejano with 41,788, Erin Tañada had 37,743 votes from Naga.
Robredo’s election lawyer Romulo Macalintal came next with 37,391 votes, followed by former solicitor general Florin Hilbay, who got 33,174 votes.
Out of all the country’s provinces, Otso Diretso bets performed well in Camarines Sur, Robredo’s bailiwick.
Robredo, also the chair of the Liberal Party, was actively campaigning for the Otso Diretso slate, appearing in proclamation rallies, television ads, and endorsing them in her public speeches.
But none of the eight opposition candidates were in the 12 spots in the Senate, according to the latest partial and unofficial results from the Commission on Elections.
Six candidates had already conceded defeat except for reelectionist Senator Bam Aquino and former Interior Secretary Mar Roxas.
The Vice President said the fight of the opposition does not end after the midterm elections.
“Our candidates and volunteers showed their courage and dedication to our advocacies. We should not let these go. Let’s draw strength from each other. We still have much to do and we can still do many things. Until the end, we are together in this fight,” she said in Filipino.
