Olivarez keeps Parañaque mayoralty post

By Dhel Nazario Reelectionist Paranaque City Mayor Edwin Olivarez was officially proclaimed winner Tuesday night defeating former Mayor Florencio Bernabe by a wide margin in last Monday’s midterm election. Olivarez, in his third and last term, bagged the majority of votes cast at 169, 224, over Bernabe’s total of 52, 842.

(MANILA BULLETIN) His running mate, incumbent Rico Golez with 141,433 also defeated Bernabe’s running mate, Jeremy Marquez, son of comedian-actor and former Mayor Joey Marquez, with only 79,229 votes. All candidate councilors under Olivarez’s Team Bagong Paranaque were also elected in District I and II including his brother Eric who won by a landslide in District I congressional race. Neophyte politician Joy Tambunting, wife of outgoing District II Representative, Gus Tambunting, ran unopposed. Olivarez was 1st District Representative in 2011-2013 when he run in the mayoralty race defeating Bernabe’s son Benjo in 2013 elections. He then ran unopposed in the 2016 mayoralty race. In an interview, the re-elected mayor said that the victory of Bagong Paranaque Team is a clear manifestation of the voice of the people. “Indeed, the politics in my beloved city is now shifted triumphantly into a performance and program oriented politics rather than a personality one. “ “In behalf, therefore of my constituents and fellow Paranaquenos, I now urge everyone to be part of our collective advocacies for a more developed and progressive city,’ he said. #MatalinongBoto2019
