ISULAN, SULTAN KUDARAT- A husband and his wife won as governors of this province and the adjacent province of Maguindanao in the gubernatorial elections on Monday.
Sultan Kudarat 1st district Rep. Suharto Mangudadatu won unopposed as governor of Sultan Kudarat, while his wife, Mayor Bai Mariam Mangudadatu of Datu Abdullah Sangki town in Maguindanao won as governor of Maguindanao.

Bai Mariam won against Mayor Freddie Mangudadatu of Mangudadatu municipality and younger brother of incumbent Maguindanao Gov. Esmael Mangudadatu. The protagonists are cousins.
Bai Mariam vowed to provide free medical services, scholarship and livelihood assistance to the marginalized sectors of Maguindanao which is considered one of the poorest provinces in the country.
She also promised to forge political unity among the warring political clans in Maguindanao, and focus on the implementation of peace and development programs to spur the socio economic development of the province.
Meanwhile, political allies of Senator Manny Pacquiao won in the local elections in General Santos city and nearby Sarangani province.
General Santos City Mayor Ronnel Rivera was reelected for his last term, but his running mate barangay chair Lorelie Pacquiao, the senator's sister-in-law, lost to lawyer Loreto Acharon, brother of last termer South Cotabato 1st district Re. Pedro Acharon Jr.
Re-electionist Sarangani Gov. Steve Solon, Pacquiao's political protege and re-electionist Sarangani Congressman Roel Pacquiao won convincingly in the Monday's elections.
