Belmonte is next QC mayor

By Chito Chavez Quezon City Vice-Mayor Joy Belmonte is now the next city mayor after Tuesday’s 3:50 a.m. results revealed that she took 468,421 votes from the 1,483 precincts against Rep. Bingbong Crisologo’s 365,052 votes.

Quezon City Vice-Mayor Joy Belmonte (MARK BALMORES / MANILA BULLETIN FILE PHOTO) In the city’s vice-mayoral race, incumbent Councilor Gian Sotto got 380,229 votes edging out Crisologo’s running mate Jopet Sison who had 341,788 votes. Four of Quezon City’s six congressional districts will now have new representatives. Crisologo’s son Onyx garnered 73,322 votes over incumbent Beth Delarmente who got 56,387 votes in the race for representative in the first congressional district. Both Delarmente and the younger Crisologo are sitting councillors. Councilor Precious Hipolito-Castelo, wife of outgoing second district Rep. Winnie Castelo will take her husband’s seat after getting 108,376 votes compared to the 48,281 votes that former Rep. Annie Rosa Susano obtained. In the third district, outgoing Councilor Allan Benedict Reyes will now take the seat of three-term Congressman Bolet Banal after garnering 70,184 votes compared to the 22,204 votes obtained by former Councilor Dante de Guzman. Former Councilor Bong Suntay will take over the post of outgoing fourth district Rep. Feliciano Belmonte Jr. after getting 103,338 votes in a virtual rout of Kit Rodriguez who got 17,991. The younger Crisologo, Hipolito-Castelo, Reyes, and Suntay are all first time congressmen. In the fifth district, incumbent Congressman Alfred Vargas retained his post raking in 131,131 votes against his opponent Lito Francisco’s 9,029. Rep. Kit Belmonte will have another three year term after besting Johnny Domino with 94,673 votes against his rival’s 17,607. At 3:44 a.m. the Quezon City Board of Canvassers started proclaiming the winning candidates.
