TAAL, Batangas – Former Special Assistant to the President (SAP) and now senatorial candidate Christopher Lawrence ‘Bong’ Go was declared an adopted son of this town, which he visited Friday.
(LYKA MANALO/ MANILA BULLETIN)
Taal Mayor Pong Mercado handed to Go a resolution, which was approved by the municipal council, officially adopting him as a son of this historic town.
The event coincided with the opening of the El Pasubat Festival here.
Mercado cited Go’s contributions in the implementation of government projects in Taal town and in the province when he was still SAP to President Rodrigo Duterte.
“Siya po ay isa sa mga instrumento, walang iba kundi ang nagtayo ng Malasakit Center at mga health centers (para) sa ating mga Batangueño” (He was instrumental in putting up a Malasakit Center (in Batangas Provincial Hospital) and other health centers for us, Batangueños and Taaleños)” Mercado said.
Go received a warm welcome from the people of Taal, who lined the streets as he personally drove a vehicle and went on a motorcade leading to the town proper.
Go traces his roots to Batangas province as he always tells people during sorties that he comes from the Tesoro clan of Tanuan City.
He said the Tesoros have been involved in the barong tagalog business, the national costume for men for which Taal town is also known for.
