Suspect for theft incident in Malate, Manila Sunday nabbed by police One of the suspects in snatching a bag of a female student in Malate, Manila was already arrested two days after the incident was reported to police last Sunday. Based on the police report sent to the members of the media on Wednesday morning, Bryan Escarlan, 28 and member of Sigue Sigue Sputnik Gang, was nabbed at around 6 p.m. on Apr. 23 while onboard a motorcycle during a follow-operation along Tejeron Street, Sta. Ana district. Escarlan was the one driving a tricycle when his still at-large cohort, whom he identified as Jordan Camposano, 23, grabbed “Julie’s” Longchamp sling bag containing P2,000 cash, IPad, pocket wifi, and identification and automatic teller machine (ATM) cards while she was walking in broad daylight on Apr. 21 along Estrada corner Leon Guinto Streets. He said that he detached the motorcycle from its sidecar, which he left in front of Arellano University in Legarda, to avoid being located by police. Nevertheless, the whole vehicle was recovered by the authorities. Escarlan was charged with robbery for the crime he committed. (Ria Fernandez) Man shot dead in Manila  A still unidentified man was gunned down at Block 9, Tambacan, Baseco Compound, Port Area, Manila early Wednesday morning. Police described the fatality as 40 to 45 years old and 5-foot-4 in height. He was wearing a blue t-shirt and jeans when he was found dead. According to authorities, the alleged suspect in the crime is a man who immediately disappeared from the scene. Bystanders said they heard a series of gunshots and went to the area of origin. Thereafter, they saw the victim sprawled on his own blood. The examination revealed that the victim sustained several gunshot wounds in different parts of his body. Further investigation is underway to determine the motive in the killing, the Manila Police District (MPD)-Homicide Section said. (Ria Fernandez) Two robbers killed in shootout with police in Quezon City Two alleged robbers in Quezon City were killed in an armed encounter with cops after they tried to rape a woman they abducted and hold up inside a taxi in Quezon City before dawn Thursday. Investigators of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) said the slain suspects, who were described to be in their mid 30s, are yet to be identified. A report from QCPD-Batasan Police Station (PS-6) showed that a taxi driver tipped off authorities about four suspicious men inside a taxi parked at the corner of Leyte Street and Payatas Road in Barangay Payatas B around 3 a.m. Personnel of PS-6 immediately went to the area to verify the information where they saw the white cab on a dimly lit portion of the street. When the police were about to approach the group, two men at the backseat alighted and suddenly shot it out. The officers immediately retaliated and hit the suspects on different parts of their bodies which killed them on the spot. During the exchange of fires, the suspects' two other cohorts were able to run and escape from the scene. When officers inspected the crime scene, a naked woman was found inside the taxi who claimed that the men were about to rape her. According to the 34-year-old waitress, she was walking along Luzviminda Street in Barangay Batasan Hills around 2 a.m. when four men onboard a taxi forcibly took her and robbed her P3,000 cash and a mobile phone worth P14,000. Not content with the loot, the victim said the suspects started to undress her while inside the cab. Police were able to recover in the scene the victim's phone and the taxi bearing plate number VFK-686 which authorities believed to be stolen. Also seized from the slain suspects were two caliber .38 revolvers with ammunition, a black sling bag containing three sachets of suspected shabu. Further investigation is ongoing to identify and arrest the other men who escaped. (Alexandria San Juan) Police officer critical after being mugged and shot by two men in Paranaque A police officer is now in critical condition after he was mugged and shot by two men but even managed to drive himself to the hospital in Parañaque City on Wednesday. The victim was identified as Police Senior Master Sgt. Rodolfo Mondragon, 41, assigned at the Crime Laboratory Office of Camp Crame. Police described the shooter to be medium built, wearing a red shirt, black pants and a helmet. The backrider was described to be slim, wearing a black shirt, short pants, white slippers and a helmet. Investigation showed that the incident occurred at around 3:53 in the morning in front of Davidville Elementary School, Lopez, Barangay San Isidro, Parañaque City. Based on the Closed Circuit Television footage acquired by police from Barangay San Isidro showed that while the victim was parking his motorcycle, the suspects passed by riding a Mio scooter and pulled over beside Mondragon. The driver alighted from the vehicle and pulled out a firearm and held Mondragon at gunpoint but he refused to give up his personal belongings. He then tried to draw his service firearm concealed but the suspect noticed it and tried to grab it from him. The two soon struggled for the possession of the firearm until it fell on the ground and was taken by the suspect. They tried once again to take the personal belongings of Mondragon but he fought back prompting one of the suspects to shoot him before fleeing towards the southbound lane of Sucat. The victim managed to drive himself to Olivarez General Hospital for medical treatment. Police said that he sustained seven gunshot wounds. Authorities recovered from the scene five pieces of fired cartridge cases of a 9 mm. firearm. (Dhel Nazario) Man listed as number one under the barangay drugs watch-list shot dead in shootout with police A man who was listed as number one under the barangay drugs watch-list was killed after he shot it out with police during the serving of a search warrant against him in Pasay City on Thursday. The fatality was identified by police as Ferdinand Ajido Lerit, resident of E1 st. Flores compound, Brgy 176, Zone 18, Malibay, Pasay City. Police said that the suspect is involved in illegal drugs and gun running activities. Joint operatives swooped down the house of Lerit at around 6 in the morning by virtue of a search warrant issued by Pasay City Regional Trial Court Branch 111 Judge Wilhelma B. Jorge-Wagan for R.A. 10591 or Comprehensive Law on Firearms and Ammunitions. Police said that instead of surrendering, the suspect opted to shoot it out with the police operatives who retaliated and shot the suspect. Lerit sustained a gunshot wound on his body and was rushed to the Pasay General Hospital for medical treatment but was pronounced dead on arrival at around 6:20 in the morning. (Dhel Nazario) Sales agent wanted for estafa arrested in Bulacan A sales agent wanted for estafa was arrested by operatives of Eastern Police District (EPD) in Sta. Maria town in Bulacan province on Tuesday. In a report submitted to EPD director Police Brig. Gen. Christopher Tambungan, suspect Mark Anthony Cabaccan, 28, of Sta. Maria, Bulacan was arrested at his house by intelligence operatives of the District Mobile Force Battalion around 9:05 p.m. Tuesday. Hon. Judge Marie Claire Victoria Mabutas-Sordan of Regional Trial Court Branch 97 in Antipolo City issued the warrant of arrest against Cabaccan for the crime of estafa, on Feb. 19. Police said the case was made when Cabaccan borrowed P87,500 from a complainant only identified as “Tonton D” to be used as an investment in a supposed “sure” business venture and failed with his promise of returning the amount and its monthly interests. According to the facebook page of Asintado Cardo – Cauayan City Buy and Sell, Cabaccan and his wife Rochelle Lopez-Cabaccan were long been searched by Overseas Filipino Workers allegedly victimized by the couple using the same scheme, police said. The operation was launched in coordination with Sta. Maria, Bulacan Provincial Police Office, with the assistance of the local officials of Barangay San Gabriel in Sta Maria, Bulacan. Police said Cabaccan was turned-over to Cainta, Rizal Municipal Police Station for proper disposition. (Jhon Aldrin Casinas) Five wounded after a fire truck lost its brake and rammed three tricycles and a parked car in Quezon City  Five people were wounded after a fire truck about to respond to a fire incident allegedly lost its brake and rammed three tricycles and a parked car in Quezon City on Wednesday night. A report from the Quezon City Police District Traffic Enforcement Unit (QCPD-DTEU) showed that Senior Fire Officer 1 Jose Mari Arididon was driving the fire truck of Bahay Toro Substation to respond to a fire in Barangay Bagong Silangan. According to Police MSgt. Edgardo Talacay, officer-in-charge of QCPD-DTEU Traffic Sector 5, Arididon was traversing along Sampaguita Extension in Barangay Payatas A around 9 p.m. along with three other tricycles in front of him. Minutes later, the fire officer failed to control the truck as it allegedly lost its brake causing it to ram the three tricycles ahead. The fire truck also bumped into the rear side portion of a nearby Kia Hatchback parked in front of a house and hit an internet line post before it fell on its side. Due to the impact, tricycle drivers Ibajo Alfonso, Merlito Centeno, and Alvin Iballo, passenger Jesus Frial, as well as Arididon sustained minor injuries on their bodies, while all vehicles were damaged. Wounded victims and the injured fire officer were brought by emergency responders to Quezon City General Hospital and to East Avenue Medical Center for treatment. Arididon might face reckless imprudence resulting in multiple physical injuries with damage to property. (Alexandria San Juan) Police sergeant nabbed for extortion of habal habal drivers  A police sergeant was arrested by the combined team of the National Capital Regional Police Office (NCRPO) and the Philippine National Police- Counter Intelligence Task Force (PNP-CITF) in an entrapment operation yesterday morning in Pasay City. The suspect was identified as P/SSgt. Rommel Macaspac and assigned at the Pasay City police. The suspect was arrested at about 10:00 a.m at the corner of Luna St. and Buendia Avenue, Pasay City. It was learned that the combined team conducted entrapment operation against the suspect after a complaint of extortion was filed against him by a habl-habal driver identified as Rosendo Rama and a resident of Dandan St., Pasay City. The police said that based on the complaint of Rama, the suspect was asking P2,000 when arrested and if not his habal-habal will be confiscated. Rama claimed that Macaspac even poked him a gun on his head when he was not able to give the P2,000 that the policeman is asking from him. He added that the said policemen also took the P1,500 cash of his wife that prompted him to file a complaint against Macaspac. Macaspac was arrested by the combined team of the NCRPO and PNP-CITF in an entrapment operation and recovered from his possession was the P1,000 marked money. (Jean Fernando) Man shot dead by a lone gunman on motorcycle in San Juan City A man was shot dead by a lone gunman on motorcycle in San Juan City Thursday afternoon. Police Colonel Ariel Fulo, San Juan City Police chief, described the fatality around 5’4 in height, wearing a blue t-shirt and a black maong short. The suspect, on the other hand, was wearing a brown and red jacket and a black helmet and quickly escaped after the shooting onboard a motorcycle, Fulo told the Manila Bulletin in a phone interview. Initial investigation showed that around 3:30 p.m., the victim was walking along Gen. Vicente S. Lim Street in Barangay Little Baguio, San Juan when the suspect drove near the victim and shot him in the head, causing his instantaneous death. Police said the suspect then fled towards Gen.
