PBA: Parks to join Blackwater practice today

by Waylon Galvez Blackwater rookie Bobby Ray Parks Jr. is thrilled to start the next stage of his basketball career when he reports for Elite duty today. “I’m just excited,” said Parks when contacted by the Bulletin yesterday. Ray Parks Jr. (PBA Images) Ray Parks Jr. (PBA Images) The 26-year-old Parks, son of the late Bobby Parks, a seven-time Best Import winner, will start training with the Elite at the Reyes gym in Mandaluyong City, finally joining the team that selected him second overall in the rookie draft. Blackwater management, upon the approval of PBA commissioner Willie Marcial, had allowed Parks to finish his commitment with Alab Pilipinas in the ASEAN Basketball League. “For me this is my life… I know what I’m trying to do for me, to the people that I really love and try to lead me. I know for sure I made the right decision,” said Parks, a born-again Christian. While he is a newcomer in the PBA, Parks isn’t new to playing pro ball following his stint in various leagues, including the NBA D-League. “Been playing pro for a while now. Of course, the PBA is prestigious, but I’ve been playing pro basketball since I finished college. D-League, ABL is considered pro,” he said.
