Quezon City government commends homegrown athletes for bringing honor to the country

By Chito Chavez The Quezon City government has consistently honored athletes who excel in different sports competitions in the country and abroad. Recently, the Quezon City Council passed City Resolution 7756-2019 citing Kim Ian Chi, a resident of Barangay Baesa, for bagging medals in bowling competitions of the Asian Para Games 2018 held last October in Jakarta, Indonesia. Chi, who bested 16 other competitors in Asia, clinched the gold medal in Tenpin Bowling Mixed Singles and won silver in Tenpin Bowling doubles competition. “It is fitting and proper for the Quezon City government to extend its sincerest congratulations and commendation to Kim Ian Chi for giving honor and pride to Quezon City and the Philippines for his exemplary performance in the field of sports,” the resolution introduced by Councilor Diorella Maria G. Sotto read. The Philippines fielded 57 para-athletes in 10 out of the 18 sports in the games. Also, the city council recently passed Resolution 7733-2019 commending Carlos Edriel Yulo who clinched third place in the Artistic Gymnastics World Competition in Qatar. Yulo, who competed against top athletes in the world with top-class competitors from Russia and Japan, bagged the Philippines' first medal in Men's Floor Category of the said competition held on November 2, 2018. "This momentous feat made its mark in the world of athletic competitions, placing our country at par with the highly skilled performing foreign counterparts, that is worthy of inspiration and emulation for our youth," the resolution read.
