Eastern Samar gov dies at 70

By Marie Tonette Marticio TACLOBAN CITY - The family of Eastern Samar governor Conrado "Aklan" Nicart Jr. confirmed his death at age 70 and 8 months. His wife, Mayor Thelma of San Policarpo, Eastern Samar confirmed his death on Tuesday (April 15) afternoon at the Makati Medical Center in Makati City where he had been confined for over a year. Nicart Jr. was elected governor of Eastern Samar in 2010 and was on his third term before his death. In September 2017, Nicart took an indefinite medical leave leaving Marcelo Ferdinand Picardal to assume the post as the acting governor of the province. He was survived by his wife and their four children. One of his sons, Vice-mayor Conrado Nicart III also of San Policarpo town is running for congressman in the lone district of Eastern Samar against Guiuan Mayor Christopher Sheen Gonzales and Borongan City Mayor Fe Abunda. c
