A suspect in the grim massacre of a mother and her two sons in San Jose Del Monte, Bulacan last week allegedly hanged himself to death on Tuesday, police said.
Joselito Cortez, 48, was found dead inside the comfort room of the San Jose Del Monte City Police Station 1 in Barangay Poblacion where he was jailed for the death of Jaymee Casabuena, 28; and her two sons, Anton Gabriel, 8, and Joaquin Mateo, 4.
A report from the Bulacan Provincial Police Office (PPO) said Marlon Sabonsolin, a fellow inmate, went to the comfort room of the custodial facility to relieve himself at around 2 a.m. when he discovered the body of Cortez hanging from the ceiling.
Police noted that an electric wire was tied to the neck of Cortez and connected to the ceiling of the comfort room, his body already limp and hanging just a few meters off the ground.
Sabonsolin reported the discovery to the on-duty jail guards, police said.
The jail guards then immediately untied the detainee and rushed him to the district hospital were he was pronounced dead-on-arrival by the attending doctor, police said.
Cortez was arrested on April 4 after he and his accomplice, 23-year-old Wilson Nosal, allegedly robbed and killed Casabuena and her two sons.
The victims' bodies were found inside their home in Barangay Kaypian, San Jose del Monte last April 3. The two were charged by the police for the crime of robbery with homicide.
As of writing, police said the body of Cortez remained at the district hospital's morgue. It will be subjected to an autopsy examination.
