Assistant Secretary Celine Pialago, MMDA spokesperson, said that MMDA Regulation No. 19-001 Series of 2019 on speed limit regulation will soon be imposed with violators facing a fine of P1,000.
“It will not be imposed yet. We are still making the public aware of this policy. No instruction yet from the bosses to impose it,” she said.
Piallago said that, once the speed limit regulation is finalized, it will be imposed on the following roads:
(Circumferential Roads)
Recto Avenue
Pres. Quirino Avenue
Araneta Avenue
EDSA
CP Garcia Avenue
Southeast Metro Manila Expressway
(Radial Roads)
Roxas Boulevard
Taft Avenue
South Luzon Expressway
Shaw Boulevard
Ortigas Avenue
Magsaysay Boulevard / Aurora Boulevard
Quezon Avenue / Commonwealth Avenue
A. Bonifacio Avenue
Rizal Avenue
Del Pan / Marcos / Mc Arthur Highway
As per the MMDA regulation, buses and and trucks will be exempted.
Pialago said they will be imposing the policy because many accidents were found to have been caused by overspeeding along major roads in the metropolis in the early morning hours.
“During dawn, many motorists overspeed, which usually cause accidents on thoroughfares. Then, these accidents cause traffic congestion. We are implementimg this for the safety of the public,” the MMDA spokesperson said.
