Two soldiers arrested for shooting a man after bar brawl

By Aaron Recuenco Police have arrested two soldiers, who were accused of shooting and wounding a stevedore, following a brawl inside a bar in San Jose, Occidental Mindoro. Nabbed were PFCs Jomar Abadano and Kevin Postor, both assigned to the intelligence units of the 4th Infantry Battalion. Supt. Socrates Faltado, spokesman of the MIMAROPA (Mindoro Occidental and Oriental, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan) regional police, said the victim, identified as Larry Percutilla, was having drinks with his friends at a bar in San Jose town, when he engaged in a verbal tussle with a group of soldiers also drinking in the same establishment. The altercation resulted in Percutilla being punched by one of the soldiers identified as PFC Julius Valdestamon. The victim then left the bar. But Faltado said Percutilla waited for the group of soldiers, and hurled stones at them when they passed by his area at around 3 a.m. on Sunday. The two soldiers stopped the motorcycle they were riding in, and allegedly shot Percutilla several times. The victim was hit in the leg and was taken to the nearby hospital. Local police forces have arrested the two soldiers in a follow-up operation. Confiscated from them were two handguns. Faltado said appropriate charges are now being readied against the two soldiers, including a possible violation of the gun ban.
