By Vanne Elaine Terrazola Senate President Vicente Sotto III has refused to comment on President Duterte's saying that "a lot" of senators do not deserve to be in Senate. Sotto was asked in a press briefing Thursday on his reaction to Duterte's remarks during the campaign event of the PDP-Laban senatorial bets in Marikina City Wednesday night. Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III (CZAR DANCEL / MANILA BULLETIN) "There are a lot of those there who should not be there (in Senate),” Duterte said, even as he rallied for reelectionist senators who are guest candidates of his party's senatorial slate. But the Senate chief only opted to respond with a laugh, telling reporters, "No comment." "That's his opinion," he added, explaining that he does not know who the President was pertaining to. In his speech at the PDP-Laban sortie, Duterte particularly mentioned opposition Senators Bam Aquino, Antonio Trillanes IV, and a lady senator he did not name. He hit the three for endlessly criticizing his administration. But Sotto, in the same briefing, expressed support for his colleagues whom he credited for the Senate's high approval ratings. He said he will support all reelectionist senators, Aquino included, in their bid to secure anew a Senate seat. "I am definite about my support for the reelectionist senators. This is one of the most, if not the most trusted and high-approval Senate ever and they are part of it. And you can see the job and the work that they have done, all seven of them. So I, on a personal level, am supporting all seven and helping in their campaign," said Sotto.
