75 slay cases in Cavite in 3 months

By Anthony Giron IMUS CITY, Cavite---The Cavite Provincial Prosecutor’s Office recorded at least 75 murder and homicide cases in the last three months. The latest murder case involved a construction worker who killed his live-in partner at their house in Naic. The prosecutor’s office said there were 500 murder and homicide cases filed, not 482 as reported earlier, in the jurisdiction in 2018. Provincial Chief Prosecutor Gavino B. Mapanoo handles cases from General Trias and all the province's 16 municipalities. Mapanoo’s jurisdiction does not include the districts of Bacoor, Imus and Dasmariñas and Tagaytay City, Cavite City and Trece Martires City which have their own prosecutor’s offices. The media have yet to see the reports on number of filed cases in the three districts and three cities. The construction worker, Leandro De Leon Cruz, 40, stabbed his partner Mary Ruth Cabansal several times with a fan knife in a fit of jealousy in front of their eight-year-old daughter at their home in Dorothea Homes I, Naic, last Tuesday. Cabansal was declared dead at San Lorenzo Hospital also in Naic. Naic police officer-in-charge Supt. Janet L. Arinabo filed the murder case after Cruz was arrested in Malolos, Bulacan, where he hid after killing Cabansal. The two reportedly had an argument after Mary Ruth received a phone call from someone during the birthday of one of their twin children last Saturday.
