Drug buy-bust leads to shoot-out, 4 persons hurt

By Chito Chavez Two agents of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), a suspected drug personality and a cashier of a gasoline station were wounded on Wednesday when a shoot-out occurred during a buy-bust operation in Pasay City. Also hurt during the shooting incident were suspect Jeric Sandoval and Shairalyn de Guzman cashier of Uni Oil in Buendia Avenue where the agreed transaction happened. In a report to PDEA Director-General Aaron Aquino, Ortiz said PDEA operatives seized more or less one kilo of shabu worth P6.8 million from Sandoval during the buy-bust operation. Also confiscated from the suspect were bundles of boodle money and marked money. The firearm used by Sandoval is in the custody of the Pasay City Police. At around 7:45am, Sandoval arrived at the scene and was about to hand the contraband to a confidential informant who was seated inside his vehicle when he noticed the presence of PDEA agent Dennis Parrenas beside him. Since the confidential informant’s companion was unknown to him, Sandoval pulled back the item but Parrenas grabbed it which resulted into a commotion. With the ensuing chaos, Tang and the rest of the PDEA team rushed to the scene but were met by several gunshots from Sandoval hitting Tang and De Guzman who was at her post at the time of the incident and was caught by the crossfire. Tang and Saure were rushed to the San Juan de Dios Hospital while de Guzman and Sandoval were brought to the Adventist Medical Center. Ortiz said cases for violation of section 5, Article II of RA 9165, violation of 10591, violation of Comelec gun ban and three counts of frustrated murder are being readied against Sandoval.
