Manila Bulletin's "Classifieds Job Fair 2019" offers 6,000 job opportunities

By Joseph Pedrajas  At least 6,000 job opportunities were offered to job seekers who attended the first leg of Manila Bulletin’s five job fairs in Metro Manila which started Tuesday at the ground floor of Farmers Plaza Mall, Cubao, Quezon City. (KEVIN TRISTAN ESPIRITU / MANILA BULLETIN) The Bulletin’s “Classifieds Job Fair 2019” offered vacancies from 15 different industries, including media, sales, engineering and BPO. For the first hour of the fair, at least 107 job seekers were already registered. Mary Rose Sarvida, applicant, said that after learning of the job fair on Facebook, she immediately went to the event. A fresh graduate, Sarvida said she prefers attending a job fair as there are lots of companies and opportunities to choose from. The Bulletin’s event is her second time. Meanwhile, employers, such as Manulife, think on-site application is always better than online as they get to know more of the candidate and are able to capture the attention of more participants. “We, as recruiters, are looking for commitment. When you apply in a job fair, that means you have the intention to apply,” Justine Belarde, Manulife’s Talent and Acquisition associate, said. She added that participating in a job fair also reaches more participants as it captures the attention of the mallgoers or passersby who might be interested in new opportunities. Since 2010, the Manila Bulletin, the nation’s leading newspaper, has been hosting at least five job fairs every year, giving opportunities to fresh graduates and other job seekers. Arman Cabrera, Vice President for Advertising, said that it has been the initiative of the company to give jobs to people. He added that the job fair aims to make people become self-sufficient and become contributors to the nation’s building. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m, until tomorrow (March 20).
