PCID expresses sympathies to family of Vice Chairman Jaafar

By Mario Casayuran The Philippine Center for Islam and Democracy (PCID) yesterday expressed its sympathies and condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) First Vice Chairman for Political Affairs and Bangsamoro Transition Commission (BTC) Chairman Ghadzali Jaafar.   Bangsamoro Transition Commission Chairman Ghazali Jaafar (CBCP/ MANILA BULLETIN) Bangsamoro Transition Commission Chairman Ghadzali Jaafar (CBCP/ MANILA BULLETIN)   ‘’Vice-Chairman Jaafar has been one of the pillars in the struggle for a peaceful and independent Bangsamoro. He has strongly believed that peace can only be achieved if the Bangsamoro government will work to meet the expectations of the greater majority of the Bangsamoro people, be it Muslims or non-Muslims,’’ Amina Rasul, PCID president, said. ‘’His passing is a big loss to the MILF and the newly created Bangsamoro Autonomous Region (BARMM). Jaafar has served as the first chairman of MILF panel when peace negotiations started in 1997 which resulted to a ceasefire agreement with the government,’’ she stressed. ‘’Jaafar has served as the Chair of the BTC that drafted the Bangsamoro Basic Law in 2017 and oversaw the progress until it was passed as RA 11054 or the Organic Law for BARMM in July 2018. This has fused together the political clans of Muslim Mindanao and the MILF, which has shielded the MILF from internal conflict while fighting for independence,’’ she added.
