MILF leader Ghazali Jaafar dies, 75

By MB Online Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) First Vice Chairman Ghazali Jaafar has died on Wednesday. He was 75. (KEITH BACONGCO/ MANILA BULLETIN) (KEITH BACONGCO/ MANILA BULLETIN) The news of Jaafar’s passing was confirmed by his son Johari Abo. He said Jaafar passed away at around 1 a.m. at a hospital in Davao City. The cause of Jaafar’s death was not disclosed. Jaafar, one of the pillars of the MILF, was appointed as the speaker of the parliament of the newly formed Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao. He was chairman of the Bangsamoro Transition Commission that crafted the Bangsamoro Basic Law (BBL) that defines Bangsamoro people as the Muslim, Christian and lumad residents in Mindanao coexisting for decades. Jaafar's remain will be transported to Sultan Kudarat from Davao City.
