Two soldiers were killed, while another was wounded, in an encounter with Daesh-inspired terrorists in Lanao del Sur on Monday afternoon.
Col Romeo Brawner, the commander of the Army's 103rd Brigade, said that troops of Charlie Company 55th Infantry Battalion, led by a certain Lt. Cruz, were conducting combat operation when they encountered about 20 fully-armed members of a group led by Benito Marohombsar, or “ Abu Dar,” at So Palasun, Brgy. Calaludan, Pagayawan, Lanao del Sur, at about 4:20 p.m. Monday, March 11.
Brawner said two soldiers were killed while another was wounded as a result of the firefight. He said the names of the fatalities were withheld pending notification of their families.
The military official said they were verifying reports that two Daesh-inspired terrorists initially identified as Abu Tahir and Abu Jihad, were also killed in the firefight.
There were also intel reports that a number of local terrorists were wounded.
"The two are said to be members under sub-leader Zacaria," Brawner said.
"Sa kanila isa iyung body count, isa yung na-recover na namin na katawan pero dun sa intel report may namatay pa daw na isa pa, tapos maraming wounded. So hanggang ngayon tuloy-tuloy iyung kwan natin, iyung pursuit operation ," he added.
