"Akyat-Bahay" suspect nabbed in Marikina
A suspected burglar claimed that he was about to surrender to the authorities when he was arrested by policemen in Marikina City Sunday.
Police said that 19-year-old Jowell Esguerra II confessed to the crime and that he was about to surrender when he was apprehended along Visayas Street in Barangay Malanday, Marikina.
Initial investigation showed that at around 12 midnight on Sunday, 63-year-old Armando Francisco left his house located along J.P. Rizal Street in Barangay Malanday.
When he came back at around 6 a.m., Francisco, who is a cosmetologist, was surprised when he saw Esguerra emerged from his house, police said.
Esguerra then quickly escaped, while Francisco went inside his house and found that his gate was forcibly destroyed, his two expensive Apple I-phones, his Apple watch, and pocket wifi were missing.
In a follow-up operation, Esguerra, who was walking along Visayas Street, was arrested when Francisco saw and recognized him, police said.
He is now detained at the Marikina City Police detention cell. (Jhon Aldrin Casinas)
Arrested thief shot dead in police station
A newly-arrested theft suspect was shot dead inside a Sampaloc police precinct after he allegedly grabbed the service firearm of the on-duty police officer early morning Monday.
Brando Madid, about 35 to 40 years old, male, and resident of Pier 15, Port Area, Manila was killed within the confines of Sibama Police Community Precinct (PCP) located at the corner of Maceda and Simoun Streets at around 1:30 a.m. of Mar. 4.
Initial probe disclosed that the suspect was accosted by barangay officers after receiving report from a concerned citizen that he was stealing the cellphone and other belongings of a drunk man who fell asleep along the sidewalk of Retiro Street at about 11 p.m. of the previous day.
He was then brought to the Barangay Hall to face the victim, Marcos Pascual.
The victim decided not to pursue a complaint against him anymore.
But his unruly behavior led barangay officers to turn him over free of handcuffs to the police.
"Nagwawala na siya. May binunot siyang gunting sa katawan niya. Kaya para safe dinala na namin siya sa presinto (He was so unruly. He pulled a scissor from his body. So to be safe, we brought him to the precint," said Barangay 492 chairman Mario Lopez.
However, he allegedly snatched the gun of Patrolman Rolando Poronda while his case was being recorded in the blotter.
Thereafter, a scuffle ensued between them.
The suspect fired two shots against Poronda but missed. The latter then successfully recovered back his weapon and released a bullet against the former.
Police Capt. Philipp Ines said Poronda's duty partner Police Corporal Jonathan Paleyan was inside the toilet while the others were doing rounds at that time.
", it is our policy to paralyze a resistant suspect but that is not possible if our police is already in imminent danger," he said in Filipino.
The suspect was rushed to Ospital ng Sampaloc but he later died.
Meanwhile, Poronda surrendered his service firearm and underwent paraffin test.
He was also relieved from his post and placed under the Administrative Holding Unit while
the investigation of Manila Police District (MPD) - Homicide Section is ongoing. (Ria Fernandez)
Police still investigating architect's fall from service door in Q.C
Police are now probing the death of an architect who fell from an emergency service door of an elevator at the third floor of a building in Cubao, Quezon City over the weekend.
Police Brigadier General Joselito Esquivel Jr., Quezon City Police District (QCPD) director, said he already ordered a further investigation on the incident to determine any possible foul play or negligence of the building administration.
Police report showed that the victim, identified as Michael Alfonso, 37, and witness Gerard Mondia, just came out from a fitness gym at the 3rd floor of Cyberpark Tower 1 at Araneta Center in Cubao around 9:10 p.m. last Saturday.
Police said Alfonso was looking for a comfort room to change his clothes when he opened a door which turned out to be an emergency service door of a high-zone elevator shaft.
Alfonso allegedly fell accidentally and landed on top of an elevator box at the building's basement.
The victim's companion immediately sought assistance from the duty guard who called up an ambulance and brought Alfonso to World Citi Medical Center but was declared dead on arrival.
Cursory examination on the victim's body showed that he sustained head injuries and bone fracture on his left arm which caused his death.
According to the police, the victim might mistook the elevator shaft door to a restroom door as no warning or signage were indicated.
Meanwhile, in a statement, the Cyberpark 1 management extends sympathy to the family of the victim and said that it "will do its best to provide necessary assistance in their time of grief."
The management added that it is also conducting its own investigation into this "highly unusual incident," and is "cooperating fully with the ongoing police investigation. (Alexandria San Juan)
Man in critical condition after shooting himself in Rizal
A man who tried to end his life by shooting himself inside his house in Binangonan, Rizal is now in critical condition , police said yesterday.
The victim was identified as Vincent Manzano y Sandoval, of legal age and residing at Brgy. San Carlos , Binangonan, Rizal.
P03 Joel Ibanez, officer on case said the incident occurred at around 11:30 a.m. when Manzano attempted to commit suicide using his .45 pistol inside his house.
According to Eleonela, mother of the victim told prober, that prior to the incident her son and the latter’s wife ensued in a heated argument. Then the victim entered his room and after few minutes she heard a gunshot emanating from her son’s room.
The victim was rushed to a nearby Lakeview Hospital for medical treatment and now under observation by the attending physician.
Police has yet to determine the motive of the victim in attempting to end his life. (Madelynne Dominguez)
Six drug peddlers nabbed in Pateros
Six alleged drug peddlers including a senior citizen were arrested by anti-illegal drug operatives during a buy-bust operation in Pateros on Sunday.
Police Lt. Edwin Banares of the Station Drug Enforcement Unit identified the suspects as Noel Abarquez, 37; Lord Jean Campones, 34; Guilllermo Mabignay, 67; Gilbert Mabao, 38; Mark Villanueva y Nablo, 35; and Agler Sipara, 46 all listed under the illegal drugs watchlist.
Information disclosed that elements of SDEU, Pateros Municipal Police Station conducted an anti-illegal drug operation at around 4:30 in the evening along Alley 22, Brgy Sta Ana, Pateros Metro Manila.
Police were able to purchase P500 worth of suspected shabu from the suspects, which led to their immediate arrest.
They also recovered two heat-sealed transparent plastic sachets containing white crystalline substance suspected to be shabu along with various drug paraphernalia.
The arrested suspects were brought to the Pateros police for proper disposition while appropriate charges are being readied against them. (Dhel Nazario)
Family arrested for illegal drugs and possession of firearms in Quezon City
A family of five were arrested by the police after they were caught in possession of illegal drugs and firearms in a buy-bust operation and service of a search warrant at their house in Quezon City before dawn Sunday.
Quezon City Police Station 9 commander, Police Lieutenant Colonel Cipriano Galanida, identified the arrested suspects as Felix De Leon, 55, his brother Arturo De Leon, 52; his son, Bon Archie, 22; and his nephews Gulliver Resurrecion, 20, and Richard Samson, 37, all residents of No. 23 Alley 10, Pansol Proper in Barangay Pansol.
Also arrested with the family was Herbert Valdez, 29, of Williams Street in the same barangay.
Police said the family members were notorious drug personalities in their barangay.
According to Galanida, a drug sting was conducted by his anti-narcotics team after validating reports of the illegal drug peddling activities of the suspects at around 4:30 a.m.
Undercover police transacted with the suspects which resulted in their arrest and confiscation of two sachets of shabu.
Simultaneously, a search warrant issued by Hon. Judge Rosanna Fe Romero-Maglaya of QC Regional Trial Court Branch 88 was also implemented in the said residence.
Authorities were able to seize another 44 sachets of shabu, some drug paraphernalia, a Colt caliber .45 handgun loaded with seven ammunition, and two rifle replica.
Arrested suspects are now under police custody and were charged with violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, and violation of RA 10591 or Comprehensive Law on Firearms and Ammunition in relation to the Omnibus Election Code. (Alexandria San Juan)
