The Philippine National Police (PNP) has started implementing a new rank classification system after the signing into law of Republic Act No. 11200.

Police Major General Lyndon Cubos, director of PNP-Directorate for Personnel and Records Management (DPRM), issued a memorandum which provides for the organization's new nomenclature.
The memorandum, dated February 27 but was made available to the media on Friday, states the adoption of a new rank classification system that shall take effect "immediately."
It was issued to all Police Regional Offices (PROs) and directors of National Support Units (NSUs).
The RA 11200, signed into law by President Duterte on February 8, modifies the rank classification in the PNP and standardizes how cops are addressed.
According to the memorandum, the new rank classification in the PNP shall be as follows:

- Senior Superintendent to Police Colonel

- Senior Inspector to Police Captain
- Inspector to Police Lieutenant
- Senior Police Officer 4 to Police Executive Master Sergeant
- Senior Police Officer 3 to Police Chief Master Sergeant
- Senior Police Officer 2 to Police Senior Master Sergeant
- Senior Police Officer 1 to Police Master Sergeant
- Police Officer 3 to Police Staff Sergeant
- Police Officer 2 to Police Corporal
- Police Officer 1 to Patrolman/Patrolwoman
