3 dead, 3 hurt in Dagupan highway mishap

By Liezle Basa Iñigo DAGUPAN CITY, Pangasinan – Three persons were killed, while three others were injured in a vehicular accident that happened in front of a carnival along New De Venecia Highway, Lucao Dist.

(Photo PO1 Je Anne Cayabyab/Dagupan City PNP / MANILA BULLETIN) Police said Michael Reyes, the 32-year driver of the ill-fated tricycle, died on-the-spot, while his passengers Karen Viliran, 28, and her five-year-old son Wendy De Leon expired while they were being rushed to the Region 1 Medical Center. Injured were Reyes’ other passengers – Viliran’s live-in partner Wendel De Leon, 37, and their two other children Felicia Karel, 7, and Hanifa, 1. According to the police, Reyes tried to overtake another vehicle in the southbound lane of De Venecia Highway but did not see an oncoming van. The impact of the collision left the tricycle crumpled like a piece of paper. A case of reckless imprudence resulting to homicide, serious physical injury, and damage to property will be filed against the driver of the van Romeo Bugaoan.
