Boracay tourists warned of poisonous jellyfish

By Tara Yap  ILOILO CITY – Tourists at world-famous Boracay Island have been warned of the presence of poisonous jelly fish. (TARA YAP / MANILA BULLETIN) (TARA YAP / MANILA BULLETIN) The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (MDRRMC) of Malay in Aklan province recently issued an advisory of the presence of the Blue Bottle Jellyfish species. This was after the Malay Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (Malay MENRO) confirmed that this poisonous jellyfish washed ashore in the eastern coast of the resort island and along the more secluded Puka Beach. While there has been no sighting of this poisonous jellyfish along Boracay’s famous stretch of front beach, both tourists and locals must be vigilant since the sting could be very painful. “Never touch these creatures as their stingers are still active even if they are out of the water,” Malay MDRRMC emphasized. “If stung by this creature, kindly approach our deployed lifeguards along the beach,” the advisory added.
