Iligan checkpoint nets two cops violating election gun ban

By Bonita Ermac ILIGAN CITY - Two Philippine National Police (PNP) personnel were arrested at a Commission on Elections (Comelec) checkpoint for violating the election gun ban. A team led by P/Senior Inspector Taha L. Tambog, officer in charge of Police Station 2, intercepted two Nissan Navarra pick-ups on C3 road, barangay Tomas Cabili at around 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday. The first pick-up truck with plate number FOJ-390 was carrying Pantar Mayor Jabar D. Tago, his driver Saulanie M. Talib, two unidentified men, and one police escort identified as PO1 Rasid Arumpac Lambay. Found in Lambay’s possession were one Bushmaster M4 type AR15 bearing serial number MOS 041780 inserted with plastic magazine loaded with 30 rounds cartridges and one unit Glick 17 inserted with one magazine loaded with, 16 rounds cartridges. The second pick-up vehicle with plate number FOJ-362 driven by Moame Odal Dura, a resident of Saguiaran, Lanao del Sur, was carrying three male occupants, including a policeman identified as Johaimen Tamondong Mohamad who yielded one unit MP5 9mm mini rifle without serial number, inserted with one magazine loaded with 30 rounds 9mm cartridges and one unit Caliber. 45 pistol bearing serial number 140845 inserted with one magazine with 8 rounds caliber. 45 cartridges. Tambog said that when intercepted, the PNP personnel failed to present proper acknowledgement receipt (PAR) from PNP supply, Comelec certification for gun ban exemption, and Comelec clearance to provide VIP security to a politician. The arrested PNP personnel are now under the temporary custody of PS-2 while the two vehicles and the civilians have been released.
