BUTUAN CITY –Butuanons, including tourists, balikbayans and guests are excited to witness the 2019 “Kahimunan” Festival, an annual ethnic event to be held at Barangay Libertad this city.

The “Kahimunan” Festival is an annual celebration of the Señor Sto Niño and a traditional ritual performed by the natives before the start of the planting season, characterized by chanting, singing and playing accompanied by indigenous musical instruments such as the gimbor (drum), gong and bamboo instruments called “Kalatong” and “Kotik.”
Several programs of activities are being prepared for the 32nd “Kahimunan” Festival by the barangay and religious sectors, in close coordination with the city government of Butuan.
Butuan City Mayor Ronnie Vicente C. Lagnada and Agusan del Norte and Butuan City First District Rep. Lawrence Fortun and Barangay Libertad officials are spearheading the big event.
Activities include the motorcade of the Sto. Nino Image on Jan. 18 at the City Sports Complex Libertad; grand procession of the Sto. Nino images around Libertad Proper on Jan. 19; and the Grand “Kahimunan” Street Dancing Competition on Jan. 20 at J.C. Aquino Avenue to City Sports Complex Libertad.
