First Filipina who conquered seven summits to arrive home

Seven summits conqueror Lt. Carina Dayondon will arrive in the Philippines Saturday night, the Philippine Coast Guard bared Friday.

Dayondon, the first Filipina to conquer the world’s seven highest peaks, will come back home after her feat at the Vinson Massif in Antarctica in December 2018.
According to the Coast Guard, she will arrive at 8 p.m. Saturday at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.
Dayondon was one of the three Filipinas who reached the world’s highest peak Mt. Everest as part of the “Kaya ng Pinoy” expedition in 2007. From there, she went on to climb the other five highest peaks to complete the seven summits.
Dayondon’s seven summits journey started from Denali (6,190 masl) in North America in 2006 to Mt. Everest (8,850 masl) in Asia in 2007, Elbrus (5,642 masl) in Europe in 2013, Mount Kosciuszko (2,228 masl) in Australia in 2014, Mt Kilimanjaro (5,895 masl) in Africa in 2015, to Mt. Aconcagua (6,962 masl) in South America and Vinson Massif (4,892 masl) in Antarctica this year.
Capt. Armand Balilo, Coast Guard spokesman, said the PCG will organize a homecoming celebration for the first Filipina seven-summit conqueror.
Ensign Dorris Villegas, Dayondon’s colleague at the Coast Guard, told the Manila Bulletin that Dayondon’s biggest motivation in completing the seven summits is the dream itself — to be among the few mountaineers to complete the seven summits.
“She has this attitude na when she dreams for something, she works hard for it,” Villegas said.
To give honor to the country and raise the flag, to empower women comes next.
“She wanted to prove that even with limited resources like sponsors and others, she will do her best to show her love for the country, para maitaas pa ‘yung pagkilala ng ibang bansa, particularly sa mga kababaihan ng Pilipinas (to further promote the country particularly the women of the Philippines),” she added.
