Young campus 'radio broadcasters' go viral

By Jan Carlo Anolin A group of senior high school students practicing a radio broadcast piece for a contest recently went viral on social media. According to the post, the video was recorded live early December last year, days before the 2018 Regional Secondary Schools Press Conference (RSSPC) held at Ormoc City. Although the team did not win the said competition, Ralph Justine Alconaba, one of the anchors, said the support from the netizens felt "way better that winning in a national competition." "It feels like this is just a dream, never have I ever imagined that this could possibly happen and this happening left us astonished," the Grade 9 student told Manila Bulletin in an interview. As seen in the 5-minute video, the young broadcasters named their radio station, “Radyo Express Balita.” Other members of the group were Shamel Icy Bebita (Grade 8, anchor), Julius Val Beringuel (sports, Grade 12), Hans Christian Baldono (local news, Grade 10), Danielle Ester Lois Sabungan (singer, Grade 10), Kim Chantal Capones (showbiz, Grade 8), and Diether John Amoyo (technical operator, Grade 12). The video has reached five million views and around 148,000 shares as of posting.
