In a statement, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) announced the reopening of the port, which will now have an expanded capacity.
The new port will now be able to accommodate up to 28 ships, including larger vessels, thrice the capacity of the old port. The old port's capacity was about 10 ships.
The same statement said the port’s passenger terminal building will be able to accommodate about 4,000 passengers daily, which is double than its previous capacity of only 1,500 per day.
Back in March 2018, Transportation Sec. Arthur Tugade ordered the fast-tracking of repairs in port facilities.
Complying with that order, the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA), under General Manager Jay Santiago, and PPA Tubigon port manager James Gantalao worked hard on the completion of repairs through the next nine months.
The Tubigon port serves as the primary pier facility for vessels plying the Cebu to Tubigon route and an alternative port gateway to Bohol especially in the northern part of Bohol province.
