2 nabbed in San Juan drug bust An alleged drug supplier and his courier, both drug surrenderers, were arrested after a series of anti-drug operations in San Juan City Wednesday night. Senior Supt. Dindo Reyes, San Juan City Police chief, identified the suspects as Joseph Alquino, 42, of Barangay Onse and Michael Bermio, 20, of Barangay Salapan—both in San Juan City. The arrest came after weeks of surveillance where authorities received information that Alquino and Bermio, included in the drug watchlist, returned to their illegal drug activities, Reyes said. It was learned that the suspects surrendered to San Juan Police under the "Oplan Tokhang" in 2016 but they failed to undergo community-based rehabilitation program and returned to their illegal activity, Reyes added. During the interrogation, Reyes disclosed that Bermio pinpointed Alquino as his source of illegal drugs and served as Alquino’s courier for a long time. Members of the Station Drug Enforcement Unit (SDEU) first transacted a drug deal with Bermio along F. Roman Street corner Aurora Boulevard, Barangay Salapan at around 9 p.m. on Wednesday. An hour later, the police negotiated with Alquino for another drug deal and agreed to meet along Hilltop Street in Barangay Onse. Records also showed that Alquino was a former detainee charged for physical injuries filed against him by his former live-in partner but was released from jail in August 2018 after posting bail. The suspects will be charged for violating RA 9165 or the Comprehensive Drugs Act of 2002 and are now detained at the San Juan City Police Custodial facility. (Jhon Aldrin Casinas) P2.4-M worth of shabu seized in Caloocan About P2.4-million worth of shabu was seized from three alleged drug pushers in a buy-bust operation in Barangay 120, Caloocan City Thursday morning. Arrested were Belen Piñero, alias "Mommy," 39, jobless; Mary Josephine Esguerra, 18, student; and Rodney Esguerra, 19, merchandiser—all residents of Malhacan, Meycauayan City, Bulacan. Police said the suspects were newly identified drug personalities and not included in the drug watchlist. Elements of the Caloocan City Police Station Drug Enforcement Unit (CCPS-SDEU) conducted the sting at a gasoline station along Rizal Avenue at about 4:20 a.m. Investigation showed that the three were arrested after a poseur buyer bought a sachet of suspected shabu worth P50,000 from the suspects. Police retrieved five sachets of suspected shabu from Piñero and a plastic bag full of suspected shabu from Mary Josephine. The confiscated drugs have an estimated street value of P2.4 million, police said. The seized pieces of evidence were brought to the CCPS-SDEU for proper disposition. Meanwhile, the suspects were placed under police custody and will be charged for violating Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. (Minka Klaudia Tiangco) 15 caught in drug session Fifteen people, including nine minors, were arrested after the police allegedly caught them in the middle of a drug session in Marikina City Thursday night. Police identified the suspects as Art Cruz Viloria, 23; July Lyndon Lumadilla, 28; Jojo Arnais, 18; Gilbert Bertiz, 33; Nelson Ramos, 52; Delfin Castillo, 24; and nine minors aged 14-17 years old. Investigation showed that at around 9:55 p.m. on Thursday, authorities received a call from a concerned citizen reporting an alleged on-going illegal drug activity in Barangay Tumana, Marikina. Authorities responding to the call noticed through an open window a group of men and women huddled inside a house. Police said responding cops saw some members of the group in possession of illegal drugs and drug paraphernalia that urged them to enter the house and placed the suspects under arrest. Recovered were six sachets of suspected shabu, a sachet of suspected dried marijuana leaves, an improvised metal pipe, a disposable lighter, a transparent plastic, and a weighing scale. The suspects are now behind bars and facing charges for violating RA 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. Meanwhile, the nine minors were turned over to City Social Welfare and Development Office. (Jhon Aldrin Casinas) Carpenter shot by unidentified gunmen in Navotas A carpenter was injured after unidentified men shot him at Barangay San Roque, Navotas City on Wednesday before dawn. Police identified the victim as Arnie Tongoo, 32, native of Navotas City, resident of Quezon City. Investigation showed that Tongoo was walking with his wife along Judge Roldan corner Governor Pascual after visiting his father. Then, unidentified men blocked their path and shot the victim several times on different parts of his body. The gunmen fled on foot while Tongoo was rushed by his wife to Navotas City Hospital. He was later transferred to Tondo Medical Center, where he is currently confined. Police Chief Inspector Aldrin Thompson, Navotas City Police Station Investigation Unit chief, said the victim's wife could not give a clear description of the gunmen's appearance. No close circuit television (CCTV) footage is available around the area, making it difficult for police to identify the assailants, he added. Thompson said the victim was arrested four years ago for violating Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. Investigation is ongoing for the possible identification and arrest of the suspects. (Minka Klaudia Tiangco) Russian nat'l nabbed for not paying his food A Russian national was arrested for his failure to pay the food he ordered amounting to more than Php 3,000 from a known dining restaurant in Pasay City early Friday morning. The police said that the incident happened at about 12:54 a.m. at Bay Brothers Surf and Turfs located at Mall of Asia, Pasay City. Police said that the suspect was arrested by duty security guard Jamel Bardinas after the said dining restaurant supervisor Allen Raddy Amor called for assistance that the said foreigner refused to pay his bill from the food he ordered amounting to more than Php3,000. The police said that coordination with Russian Embassy was already made after the arrest of the suspect. (Jean Fernando) Man dead after falling from top of a truck A 47-year-old man fell to his death while fixing the canvas on top of the truck containing boxes of tin cans he was about to deliver in Quezon City Thursday night. Investigators of the Quezon City Police District identified the fatality as Salvador Jumao-as, a truck driver, and a resident if Bagong Silang, Caloocan City. Police report showed that the victim and a certain Ednick Dumayawan, a truck helper, who were both employees of a hauling service company, went to a tin can factory at General Luis Street in Barangay Nagkaisang Nayon, Novaliches to load the boxes of tin cans they will deliver. At about 7:45 p.m., the victim went on top of their ten-wheeler truck to fix the truck tarp that will cover the items to be delivered while Dumayawan was assisting him on the ground. Minutes later, Jumao-as accidentally slipped and fell on the ground prompting his companion to call for help to their co-workers who rushed the victim to Quezon City General Hospital. However, Jumao-as eventually succumbed to severe traumatic injuries on his head and body. The victim's body was moved to St. Peter Funeral Services for safekeeping while further investigation is ongoing. (Alexandria San Juan)
