What's the fuss on social? Catching up on the TikTok craze

The world is entering a new era. Today, anyone is empowered to create their own content. Thanks to short-form mobile video platform TikTok, every savvy smartphone user is enabled to produce videos and show off their creativity in just a few taps. TikTok has turned itself into a go-to destination for bite-sized videos that show a user’s slice of life, passion, and talents. To the uninitiated, TikTok is an app available both on iOS and Android that allows users to create vertical videos as short as 15 seconds. The videos are further enhanced through strategic cuts, filters, and other effects. The app even allows users to change the recording speed—epic, slow, normal, fast, lapse—to produce the desired output. What’s more impressive is that TikTok users can choose background soundtrack from the app’s wide range of music library. Users themselves can upload their original sounds so singers and musicians can easily turn the app into their mini-recording studio. Growing community More than platform to create videos, TikTok is also a growing community that allows users to reach out to like-minded individuals from every corner of the world. Whether it’s dancing, singing, cooking, comedy or even gardening, creators will find they are encouraged to express themselves in diversified ways while inspiring each other.  TikTok has become a trend whirlwind around the world and was dubbed as the world’s most downloaded iOS app in the first quarter of 2018. This community is even strengthened through many interactive and fun challenges like the #duetwithme that allows a user to reply to a certain video and the #raindropchallenge that turns any user into a waterbender in just one click. TikTok has also launched challenges in the Philippines to further engage and inspire its Filipino audience. These include the Talent ng Pilipino search in May to look for the most talented singers, dancers, and comedians online and the recently concluded 1 Million Audition to find local talented creators and help grow their fan base. Who’s who on TikTok TikTok is an app where users let loose. Even stars who are known for their dramatic flair like Jodi Sta. Maria and John Arcilla have used the app to show quirkier sides of themselves. TikTok, moreover, has partnered with the biggest online stars in the Philippines like Maine Mendoza as well as rising love team Maymay Entrata and Edward Barber. Aside from the biggest stars in the Philippines, TikTok is also home to millions of passionate users who have always wanted to shine. Its feed, in fact, allows people to look at content from various creators from anywhere in the world, giving them the chance to show their works beyond their circle. At its core, TikTok is really about giving the content creators from all walks of life the power to express themselves and share their creativity. With this push to put creators at the center and focus of its platform at a time when inclusivity matters, it’s no wonder why this buzz about TikTok is not dying down.
