Student nabbed for extortion A criminology student who posed as Manila cop was nabbed in an entrapment operation after he allegedly extorted money from a student motorist on Monday. Chief of the Manila Police District-District Police Intelligence Operation Unit (MPD-DPIOU) Insp. RizalinoIbay, identified the suspect as Garette Paul Javier, 27, a fourth year student and resident of Gerona Street, Tondo, Manila. Rex Viray, 23, a student at the Arellano University and resident of Jasmin Street Sta. Ana, Manila filed a complaint against the suspect for extorting P2,500 from him over an alleged traffic violation. According to report, the entrapment operation was conducted against the suspect at around 5 p.m. along Avenida andTayuman Street in Tondo, Manila on Sept. 24. Viray said that the suspect introduced himself as PO1 Mark Espejo and claimed to be assigned at the MPD-Jose Abad Police Station (PS-7). It was learned that the suspect was a former member of the Manila Traffic and Parking Bureau (MTPB) but he was dismissed because of extortion case in 2015. Javier will be chargedfor violating Article 293 or robbery through extortion, Article 177 or usurpation of authority and Article 178 or the use of fictitious name. (Erma Edera) Chinese businessman shot dead in his store in Manila A Chinese businessman was shot dead inside his grocery store by unidentified gunmen on a motorcycle in Sta. Cruz Manila, Monday night. The police identified the victim as Jimmy Chua Yu Eng Hong, 66, resident of Teodora Alonzo Street, Sta. Cruz, Manila. He died on the spot after the suspect shot him in the head at close range. Investigation showed that the victim was inside his grocery store when one of the two suspects wearing a face mask broke into the store at around 5:45 p.m along T. Alonzo Street in Sta. Cruz, Manila. The victim’s wife, Choi See-See, 59, said that the suspects onboard a motorcycle alight from the said vehicle and parked in front of their store and went straight to their counter. Another witness, Jessica Sur, 18, a saleslady, said the victim posed as a customer and took a bottle of soda but once he was near the counter, he drew a gun and shot the victim in the head.The suspects were able to escape and fled toward Claro M. Recto Avenue. SPO1 Roderick Magpale of the Manila Police District-Homicide Section said that the victim had no known enemy and was not included in the drug watchlist. Recovered from the crime scene was a fired bullet of a caliber .45. (Erma Edera) 4 minors arrested in Manila drug bust Four minors were arrested in Manila in a series of anti-illegal drug operations conducted by the Jose Abad Santos Police in Manila, Tuesday afternoon. The police nabbed its first minor drug suspect, with two adult cohorts, during a buy-bust operation along Endaya Street, Tondo, Manila at 1:40 p.m. Twenty minutes later, the same team busted another minor with two men along Yuseco Street for alleged involvement in drug trade. Seized in both operations were five small packs of suspected shabu and P200 buy-bust money. The Station Drug Enforcement Team (SDET) of Sampaloc also took two children in conflict with the law under custody. The 16-year-old female and the 17-year-old female were caught in possession of two small sachets believed to contain shabu at 4:10 p.m. while along the PNR Railroad on Algoricas Street in Sampaloc. Meanwhile, the Sta. Cruz Police also apprehended at 4 p.m. yesterday four young adults, namely, PJ Salazar, 19; John Elbert Mee, 18; RodelPorcall, 22; and JoredrilBelena, 18, for smoking marijuana along Lope de Vega corner Oroqueta Street. Latest figures from Manila Police District showed a total of 32 individuals, all not under the drug watchlist, were arrested in various parts of the city for violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. (Ria Fernandez) Welder nabbed in Valenzuela buy-bust ops An alleged drug user was nabbed by police in a buy-bust operation in Valenzuela City on Tuesday morning. Elements of the Valenzuela City Police Station Drug Enforcement Unit and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency conducted the sting along Marcelo Street, Lingahan Street, Barangay Malanday, Valenzuela City. Investigation showed that at about 7:25 a.m., a poseur buyer bought one sachet of suspected shabu from the suspect. After the transaction, police called for back-up operatives, which led to the arrest of the said suspect. Arrested was Franco Balido, alias Frankie, 54, welder, native of Southern Leyte, resident of the area. Upon frisking, police recovered nine sachets of suspected shabu inside a cigarette pack and the P200 marked money. The suspect and the seized pieces of evidence will be turned over to the Crime Laboratory of the Scene of the Crime Operatives Satellite Office Valenzuela City Police Station. (Minka Tiangco) Female college student arrested for stealing school supplies A female college student was arrested for allegedly stealing some school supplies amounting to around P1,000 inside a mall’s department store in Mandaluyong City Tuesday evening. The suspect was identified as Mary Kathryn Suropia, 19, a resident of Barangay San Antonio, Pasig City. Police report showed that at around 8:10 p.m., Suropia entered the second floor of the said establishment and after sighting that there were no customers around, she took the school supplies and allegedly hid all the stolen items in her white shoulder bag. The on-duty civilian guard Eduard Allan Batoon felt suspicious and asked the student to present a proof of purchase, however, she failed to do so. Batoon was prompted to inspect her bag and was able to recover all the stolen items. The suspect was then arrested on the spot facing a theft charge at Mandaluyong City police detention cell. Meanwhile, Suropia told the Manila Bulletin on Wednesday that she intended to steal the items to sell them to her classmates for additional allowance. “Nahihiya na po kasi akong humingi sa magulang ko. Pandagdag pambayad na rin po sa school fees,” she said. (Hanah Tabios) Motorist apprehended after hitting traffic enforcer  A motorist traversing along Ortigas Avenue in Pasig City was jailed for hitting an on-duty traffic enforcer early morning Tuesday. Police Chief Inspector Mariel Reyes of Pasig City Police said that suspect Anthony Soberano, 37, a resident of Barangay Sto. Domingo, Cainta, Rizal was driving along Ortigas Avenue in Barangay Sta. Lucia, Pasig City on board his motorcycle at around 8 a.m. On-duty enforcer Mark Gregory Davis was manning the traffic situation along the area when he saw Soberano committing a counterflow violation. Davis then tried to approach the suspect, however, Soberano did not stop. He immediately chased after the fleeing violator and cornered him still along the vicinity. In an attempt to inform the suspect about his violation and issue an ordinance violation receipt, Soberano and Davis engaged in a heated argument. Few minutes later, Soberano abruptly hit the enforcer’s head with his helmet. Davis, despite getting hurt, locally arrested Soberano on the spot and turned him over to the Pasig City Central Police Station. He is now detained at the police detention cell, facing a direct assault charge. (Hanah Tabios) Cadaver found inside abandoned vehicle in Las Pinas A man with a lone gunshot wound to the head was found inside an abandoned SUV Tuesday night in Las Piñas City. The body of the victim was found inside a black vehicle with plate no. UOA-550 along Vatican Drive, BFRV, Talon 2, Las Piñas City. Police said a caretaker of an events place near the area, identified as Leonardo Ontoy, saw the abandoned SUV at around 9 in the evening, but did not hear any gunfire prior to finding the abandoned SUV. Authorities recovered empty shells and slugs of an unknown caliber of firearm, personal belongings such as a phone and watch were also recovered. Police are still clueless regarding the motive of the killing and that they are setting aside robbery as a possible reason since all the victim's belongings were all intact. (Glendel Nazario) 2 killed in shootout with cops in QC Two suspected gunrunners were killed after engaging in a shootout with policemen in a buy-bust operation in Quezon City, early Wednesday. Investigators of the Quezon City Police District said one of the suspects was in his late 30s, wearing gray shirt and checkered cargo pants with "jeacelwado" tattoed on his chest, while the other was in his early 30s clad in gray shirt and brown shirt pants with tattoos "TAOPO" inscribed on his belly, "Sputnik" on his lower right chest, and "Buboy Gabatino" on his neck. Joint operatives of the Quezon City Criminal Investigation and Detection and Quezon City Police District Special Operations Unit conducted a buy-bust operation against a certain Jose Guevarra, who police said was the leader of known gunrunners operating in Metro Manila. An undercover operative transacted with Guevarra who was with the two suspects at Group 6, Payatas Road in Barangay Payatas B around 2:45 a.m. After the transaction, Guevarra seemed to sense that he was dealing with police officers prompting him to hurriedly board a white Toyota Vios with "For Registration" plate driven by his unidentified cohort and then escape. His two other companions, meanwhile, were left in the scene but instead of surrendering, fired at the responding police officers who retaliated and killed them on the spot. Authorities were able to recover from the slain suspects two improvised pipe guns or sumpak, a caliber .22 black widow magnum revolver, a caliber .38 revolver, five sachets of shabu, and pieces of ammunition and empty shells. Meanwhile, personnel of Explosive Ordnance Disposal team seized an MK2 fragmentation hand grenade from the sling bag of one of the suspects. Female vendor nabbed for child abuse A female vendor was arrested by San Juan City police Tuesday afternoon after a Pasig City court issued an arrest warrant against her for a child abuse case. The suspect was identified as Juvy Uniporme, 38, and resident of Barangay Progreso, San Juan City. Authorities arrested Uniporme inside her residence at around 2:30 p.m. Uniporme was charged with child abuse after she was accused of beating her 17-year-old female neighbor last July 4, 2018. The suspect was detained at San Juan City police detention cell while the court also recommended P80,000 bail for her temporary liberty. (Hanah Tabios) Man stabbed by drinking buddy A man was injured after one of his drinking buddies stabbed him with a bolo inside their barracks in Valenzuela City, Tuesday evening. The stabbing incident happened along Jacinto Street, Canumay West, Valenzuela City at about 9:45 p.m. The victim, identified as Raniel Dangco, 21, was trying to pacify a heated argument between his drinking buddies --- his brother Francisco Dangco, and suspect, Wilfredo Ursua, 67 --- when Ursua stabbed him on the hip with a bolo. The victim was rushed by his relatives to Valenzuela Medical Center where he was confined. A case of frustrated homicide will be filed against the arrested suspect, police said. (Minka Tiangco)
