DAVAO CITY – The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) said the population Sulu province in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) reached 824,731 in 2015 and is projected to reach 918,500 persons in two years, the 2015 Census of Population released by the agency recently said.
The agency said that 50.6% of the Sulu population were women and 49.4% were men but people aged 45-74-year-old men outnumbered the population of women in the same age group.
The PSA recorded more women than men in the municipalities of Luuk, Parang, Pata Panglima Estino (New Panamao), Old Panamao, Patikul, Jolo, Siasi, Omar, Maimbung, Pandami, Tapul, Pangutaran and Lugus, while more men were registered in the municipalities of Hadji Panglima Tahil (Marunggas), Indanan, Kalingalan Caluang, Tongkil and Talipao.
It added the number of single or never married women in the province of Sulu is more than that of single or never married men comprising 50.3% and 49.7% of the provincial household population, respectively.
The report said women comprised 50.1%, while men are 49.9% of the married population.
It also said the youth population from age-group 15-24 years old reached a total of 160,990 persons, comprising 19.5 percent of the total household population of Sulu, of which, 10.0 percent are women and 9.5 percent is men.
The results also showed that there are also more women than men among working age-group between 15 and 64 years old and voting age-group 18 years old and over.
In the age-group 45-79 years old, it added there are more men than women, while in the age group 80 years old and over, a percentage of women is slightly higher than that of men.
The report said there are 395,261 persons aged 10 to 24 years old and 72.7 percent of which were currently attending school in 2015-2016, noting more women than men who were attending school.
