The country’s first-ever museum of presidential cars was finally opened on Sunday in the Quezon Memorial Circle.

The National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) and the Quezon City local government inaugurated the Presidential Car Museum in time for the commemoration of the 140th birthday of former President Manuel L. Quezon.
Mayor Herbert Bautista led the opening of the museum along with Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque, NHCP Chairman Dr. Rene Escalante, and NHCP Executive Director Ludovico Badoy.
"Hindi lang po yan sasakyan, iyan po ay kabahagi ng ating kasaysayan,” said Roque in his speech.
Twelve presidential vehicles were displayed in the museum, included were limousines used by former Presidents Emilio Aguinaldo, Manuel L. Quezon, Jose P. Laurel, Manuel Roxas, Elpidio Quirino, Ramon Magsaysay, Ferdinand Marcos, Corazon Aquino, Fidel V. Ramos, Joseph Estrada, and Gloria Macapagal Arroyo. Most of the cars were originally housed in a private warehouse in Pampanga.
Specifically, the cars displayed were former president Manuel Quezon’s Chrysler Airflow Custom Imperial CW, two Packard Custom Super Eight: One-Eighty Limousine of former presidents Jose P. Laurel and Sergio Osmeña, Cadillac Fleetwood Series 75 Limousine of former president Manuel Roxas, Chrysler Crown Imperial Limousine of former president Elpidio Quirino, Cadillac Series 75-23 of former president Ramon Magsaysay, Cadillac Sedan DeVille of former president Diosdado Macapagal, Lincoln Continental Mark VI of former president Ferdinand Marcos, Mercedes-Benz 500SEL of former president Corazon Aquino, Mercedes-Benz 500SEL Guard of former president Fidel V. Ramos, and Mercedes-Benz S600 of former president Joseph Estrada.
Unfortunately, cars used by former presidents Diosdado Macapagal and Carlos Garcia were never recovered. Meanwhile, Sergio Osmeña's vehicle is in Cebu and acquisition of Aquino's Lexus SUV is still in the works.
The museum also has a special section of historic cars where the Rolls-Royce Phantom V of former First Lady Imelda Marcos, Willys Jeep donated by General Douglas McArthur that served as the vehicle of Secretary of National Defense Ramon Magsaysay during the Quirino Administration, Cadillac V16 Transformable Town Car Cabriolet used by former president Manuel Quezon and General Douglas McArthur, and a carriage or kalesa used by Leon Apacible, one of the authors of the 1899 Constitution in Malolos, were displayed.
The museum also featured an interactive system featuring trivia about the presidential cars.
“The presidential cars should not be regarded simply as luxury vehicles. It is an artifact, a national patrimony, an icon of history and a legacy of the person who used it,” said Escalente.
“It also reveals the socio-political and economic situation of an era and the level of privacy and security accorded for former presidents,” the NHCP chairman added.
The Presidential Car Museum is open from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm Tuesday to Sunday.
