An environmental health group has petitioned for the closure of an open dumpsite in Mapandan, Pangasinan, as it may cause hazard to the health and the environment.
The EcoWaste Coalition said residents of Barangay Primicias in Mapandan town have already raised concerns as it may affect their health.

"Community residents are worried they will get sick or contract diseases due to the unlawful operation of the open dumpsite," the group said.
The group said the dumpsite is located not far from residential houses and schools.
"The open dump does not fit the good image of Mapandan, which is considered as one of the cleanest, safest, and greenest municipalities in Pangasinan," said Daniel Alejandre, Zero Waste Campaigner of the group.
The EcoWaste Coalition stated that it already wrote to the Environmental department and Interior department to plead for the closure of the open dumpsite and its proper cleanup and rehabilitation.
