Villar, Marcos' partymate in the Nacionalista Party (NP), affirmed that the former presidential daughter will be running for senator along with her, and Taguig City Representative Pia Cayetano.
The reeelectionist said this in a briefing with reporters in Las Piñas, where she was asked about her posssible negotiation with the National People's Coalition, and the ruling Partido Demokratiko ng Pilipinas-Lakas ng Bayan. Both political parties have included Villar among those that they will endorse in the May 2019 midterm polls.
"Actually very friendly naman sila (They are actually very friendly). No political party can be able to endorse a full slate. Medyo mahirap naman talaga na...makakaendorse ka ng full slate. Maraming talo (It would be quite difficult to endorse a full slate. You would lose)," she said.
"Kami sa NP tatlo lang kami (In the NP, we are only three). Pia Cayetano, Imee Marcos and myself," she followed.
Asked to clarify Marcos' bid to run for Senate seat, Villar replied, "Yes, yes. She's campaigning."
Marcos, who has been mum about her plans for the 2019 elections, was seen with other personalities rumored to be eyeing a Senate slot during President Duterte's meeting with members of the Filipino communty in Hong Kong on April 12.
She, however, was not part of the possible list by PDP-Laban for its senatorial slate, as bared recently by the Senate President Aquilino Pimentel III, the party's president.
Villar, nevertheless, believes that Marcos has a huge chance of winning in the senatorial race.
"Of course. Kaya lang naman siya nawawala kapag sinasama si Bongbong kasi dalawa sila. Syempre magulo yun, ibig sabihin dalawa yung kandidato, hindi nila alam kung sino ang iboboto. Pag siya lang mag-isa mananalo siya (She is only out of the slate when her brother Bongbong is included instead. It would be confusing to include the two of them. Who would people vote? But if it is just her, she would win)," Villar said.
The senator said she might also push for Marcos' inclusion in the administration ticket.
