MOVIE REVIEW: Whenever you see or hear the name Oprah Winfrey linked to a movie, you already know from the get-go that there’s value and heart in the story. All throughout the movie, as the stoic Mrs. Which, she has value aplenty to impart. Add Reese Witherspoon as Mrs. Whatsit to the compendium and you know there will be some light moments with impact. Along with Mindy Kaling as Mrs. Who, the cast of “A Wrinkle in Time” surely packs a punch. Mindy Kaling is Mrs. Who, Levi Miller is Calvin O’Keefe, Oprah Winfrey is Mrs. Which, Zach Galifianakis is the Happy Medium, Storm Reid is Meg Murry, Deric McCabe is Charles Wallace Murry and Reese Witherspoon is Mrs. Whatsit in Disney’s 'A Wrinkle In Time' The movie has so many quotable quotes that would thrill anybody who wants insight into good and evil, love and family. Almost every line spoken by the magical trio has moral lesson. The film has something to take away for every member of the family. Most folks here in the Philippines may remember having to read “A Wrinkle in Time” for a book report back in grade school or high school. For those lucky ones, this movie carries over many of those lessons that the book is known and loved for. There are so many lessons in fact, that it’d be useless for me to try to give even one. You won’t be able to leave the theater without your soul being touched. The fantastical worlds, the costumes of the three “Mrs.” and the mystical characters are refreshing. They lift up your senses and make you think happy thoughts. But again, it’s the words spoken by the characters, not their looks, that came with punches. This movie is a combination of light fantasy and science fiction that has weight. This weight… the lessons and values, were beautifully brought to surface by the young Storm Reid. Her face just draws you in and her voice, especially when she said “Dad?” will haunt you. Her friend Calvin, played by Levi Miller is guaranteed to make a lot of hearts pitter-patter and sigh. And the young Charles Wallace, played by Deric McCabe deserves and award. In a nutshell, think “Wizard of Oz” meets “Never Ending Story” and you’ll get “A Wrinkle in Time.” Visually delightful, emotionally insightful and spiritually uplifting.
