Dismissal order served to CamNor governor

By Danny J. Estacio Lucena City, Quezon — Camarines Norte Governor Edgardo Tallado has been served his dismissal order by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG). This was confirmed by DILG Region 5 (Bicol) Director Elouisa Pastor, who said she came face to face with the embattled governor and served him the dismissal order on the last hour of the last prescribed day set by the Office of the Ombudsman (OMB) for Luzon for the order to be served. The order for Tallado’s removal of office was issued by the OMB on Jan. 20, 2018 and transmitted on Feb. 12, 2018 to the DILG, which had 30 days to serve the order. However, it was only last Monday when the order was signed by DILG Officer-in-Charge Eduardo Año and sent to the Legazpi City office of Pastor, who received it on the following day. Racing against time, Pastor was able to reach the Camarines Norte Capitol in Daet last Wednesday – the 30th day since the DILG’s receipt of the order – and serve the dismissal order to Gov. Tallado at 5 p.m. Pastor said she was surprised by the calmness exhibited by Tallado, who even told her that he’d been expecting it. Tallado, whose post will be taken over by Vice Governor Jonah Pimentel, had told Pastor that he will not even bother to make an effort to refute the Order because he did not want to use his supporters for mass actions to protect him in office. Tallado’s dismissal from office stemmed from charges of Grave Abuse of Authority and Grave Misconduct filed by Edgardo Gonzales, the provincial veterinarian who Tallado relieved in 2012 from the Office of the Provincial Veterinarian and reassigned him as Public Information Officer (PIO) - a position the governor allegedly created for Gonzales.
