Considering that they’ve been together as a group for the past four years, they are not really “fresh” anymore. But if we consider their youth, they are freshmen nonetheless.

The Freshmen are Sam Ayson, Patrick Abeleda, Thirdy Casa, Levy Montilla and Derick Gernale.
They formed when they auditioned and passed the grade imposed by Bobby Nazareno, who later became their manager. After the demise of Nazareno last year, they became talents of Viva Entertainment.
It used to be R&B that they originally focused on but Derick said they are now into pop. Their debut single, “Bumalik Ka Na,” was released by Ivory Records last year. Their second single, composed by Sam Ayson, “I Tried,” will be released in March.
In 2013, the Freshmen received the Gawad Musika for Outstanding Boyband from the Teen Choice Philippines, and in 2014, they got a nomination for Most Promising Boyband from the Aliw Awards.
Coming from different backgrounds, the Freshmen continue to hone their talents through workshops and rehearsals (once a week they said). “We want to stay in the business long term,” Derick said. They have so far done cameo roles in Viva Films and commercials too.”If given the opportunity, we would also like to try acting.”
On Feb.8 and 9, the Freshmen joins the Philippine Madrigal Singers, Bo Cerrudo, Nicole Laurel Asencio, Joey de Guzman, and the RLSAA Chamber Orchestra in a pre-Valentine concert billed as “All We Need is Love…Love is All We Need,” at the Music Museum.
The two-night pre-Valentine show is for the benefit of the various programs and projects of Helping One Person Everyday (HOPE) Movement. These undertakings include Healing on Wheels medical mission for the elderly in the metropolis and in the provinces; Food 0n Wheels feeding program for indigents; Home on Wheels-finding Wheels for abandoned elderlies and orphans; Justice on Wheels – free consultation on legal matters; Livelihood on Wheels –focus on jobs creation related to wellness and food industries; and art workshops.
The HOPE Movement is a strong and committed partner of the Department of Education in supporting the young artists from Regional lead School for the Arts in Angono.
