After heartbreaker, Tigresses vent anger on Lady Warriors

University of Santo Tomas recovered from an opening-day slump as it disposed of University of the East, 25-17, 25-15, 25-21, yesterday in UAAP women's volleyball at The Arena in San Juan City.
Sisi Rondina paced the Tigresses with 20 points, 19 from attacks, as they regained their bearings from their heartbreaking 25-20, 17-25, 25-22, 15-25, 15-8 loss to defending champion La Salle Lady Spikers last Sunday.
The España-based team dominated the Lady Warriors for most part of the 76-minute match, exposing UE’s weak offense by overpowering them at the net, 40-27.
Only Mary Ann Mendrez scored in double figures for the Lady Warriors, managing 10 points. UE fell to 0-2.
In men’s action, UST followed up its strong start by besting UE, 25-11, 25-21, 20-25, 25-15, for 2-0.
Arnold Bautista and Joshua Umandal led with 13 points and 12 points for the Tigers, who relied on their fierce attacks on the way to 51 kills.
Three-time defending champion Ateneo, meanwhile, bounced back from its opening-day loss with a 26-24, 25-21, 17-25, 25-19 over last year’s finals rival NU.
Both the Eagles and the Bulldogs evened their win-loss record at 1-1.
