Alaska rode on Jvee Casio's first career triple-double and overcame the absence of key players for various reasons to edge Rain or Shine, 99-95, Friday and snap a two-game skid in the PBA Philippine Cup at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Casio finished with 22 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists, playing the starring role for the Aces with Calvin Abueva and Carl Bryan Cruz out because of Gilas Pilipinas duties and Chris Banchero out because of an injury to end the eliminations with a 7-4 record.
The Aces also got a lift from seldom-used Marion Magat, who had 14 points and six rebounds, while Jeron Teng returned from missing Saturday's loss to San Miguel with a hyperextended knee and produced 14 points and five rebounds.
Maverick Ahanmisi scored 23 points, leading a Rain or Shine comeback at the midway point of the fourth but the Elasto Painters fell to 5-4.
Rain or Shine's defeat gave San Miguel a twice-to-beat advantage and the No. 1 seed in the quarterfinals. The Beermen, who had an 8-2 record, earlier survived the lowly Kia Picanto, 98-96, on Marcio Lassiter's game-winning basket.
James Yap gave Rain or Shine a 95-94 lead, 1:30 left, but Vic Manuel scored to put Alaska back in front.
A Yap miss from three-point country allowed Casio to make two foul shots to extend the lead to three, 98-95. Rain or Shine's Mark Borboran bungled a game-tying triple and Racal split his charities to seal the final count.
