Audio Junkie: Young ladies on Pinoy pop music scene

This year is fast shaping up to be one wherein the up and coming ladies of local pop dominate.
Moira Dela Torre
In case you just crawled out from under a rock, Moira Dela Torre already has over 44 million streams on Spotify on the strength of “Malaya” (from the “Camp Sawi” OST). Naturally, having a hit as big as that would lead to people listening to her other songs as “Titibo Tibo,” “Torete,” “Sundo” and “Tagpuan." Those have combined 50 million plus streams.
Morissette has made strides as well. She may not have the same numbers as Moira, but she's on radar making those six million blips on the same streaming platform with the R&B tinged “'Di Maipaliwanag.” Ditto with “Akin Ka Na Lang” with 4M plus.
Another M is Marion Aunor, who is positioning to be in the same bunch as the previous two (as if she's not already there with 13 million streams). Marion's career is revitalized having signed with a new label and she kicks it off magnificently with the piano-decked ballad “Ikaw Pa Rin Ang Pipiliin Ko." It is the theme for the upcoming Yassi Pressman-Sam Milby starrer, “Pambansang Third Wheel.”
Indie artists are making a dent, too. Among them is newcomer Jo.e. Pronounced as 'Joey' this 25-year old singer-songwriter only discovered music at 17 years old when she took up the hobby of playing the piano and guitar.

She instantly took a liking to pop and hasn't looked back since.
“I had to finish college first but after that, I said I'm going into music full time,” said Jo.e.
She has indie-released two original tracks. First is the R&B tinged pop “Tayo” which has garnered two million plus streams; and her second song “Stop Over” - a clever re-imagining of the term 'cool off' – has almost the same numbers.
Which gives a totally independent artist like Trisha Denise all the chance in the world. Trisha D is a singer-songwriter too. Her five-track EP “Sunshine” shows she's got game.
Trisha D's got a relaxing voice and she stays out of the way to let song do the talking.
Opening track “I Don't Even Know” is an inspirational song about letting go. “Balewala” is a tuneful piece of balladry which she describes as “God's love song for us” (single material if you ask me). But actual carrier single “Mahalaga” is a catchy, acoustic flavored single.
