Tabuena seeks better showing

By WAYLON GALVEZ Miguel Tabuena looks forward to a better performance when he returns to action next week, this time a tough field in the 100th Solaire Philippine Open at The Country Club in Sta. Rosa, Laguna. The 23-year-old Tabuena, who nearly won a second straight TCC Invitational at the same course last week but lost to Korean-born American Micah Shin by one shot, is bracing for a difficult challenge in his bid to regain the Philippine Open he first won in late-2015. “I have to go back to the drawing board, play better. The event has more of an international field,” said Tabuena. “I have to be ready. I’m sure the other players would prepare better also. They have an idea of the course, how tough it is and the wind. So I have to prepare better,” he added. Despite falling short in the TCC Invitational, Tabuena expressed a positive outlook after carding a four-day total of 284. He hopes to carry that form in Asia’s oldest golf tournament which tees off on Feb. 28. Shin, meanwhile, will be one of the notable participants in the competition which offers a total pot of P600,000, the richest in the history of the Philippine Open. Other top locals to see action are Tony Lascuna, Angelo Que, Frankie Minoza and possibly Juvic Pagunsan, who skipped the previous TCC Invitational.
