SC Stockfarm dominates Philracom awards

Santa Clara Stockfarm reaped the fruits of its historic 2017 campaign, highlighted by the Triple Crown triumph of its star horse Sepfourteen, by garnering four major awards during the Philippine Racing Commission’s 2017 Horse Racing Top Industry Players Awards Sunday at the Chantilly Bar and Bistro, San Lazaro Leisure Park in Carmona, Cavite. Owner Oliver “Jojo” Velasquez personally received the awards for SC Stockfarm as Stakes Race Horse Owner of the Year (376 points) and Horse Breeder of the Year (200 points) in simple rites at the Chantilly Bar. The youthful owner also received the two titles of his prized horse Sepfourteen as Top Earning Horse of the Year with total prizes amounting to P6,730,000.00 and Stakes Race Horse of the Year with 156 points. “Last year was a historic one for SC Stockfarm, we were truly blessed. The task now is how to at least duplicate that achievement. It will be very difficult, but the challenges are what keeps us going,” said Velasquez. Sepfourteen’s trainer Tomasito Santos also shared the spotlight with Velasquez after garnering the Stakes Race Horse Trainer of the Year award with 352 points, while the Triple Crown winner’s jockey John Alvin Guce was named Stakes Race Jockey of the Year with 256 points. Based on gross earnings, it was Narciso O. Morales, who earned the Top Earning Horse Owner of the Year, with a whopping total 2017 purse of P66,438,950.54. His son Kennedy Morales received the award on his father’s behalf. The Top Earning Trainer of the Year award, on other hand, went to veteran Ruben S. Tupas, whose horses trained pocketed a combined total of P75,609,649.80, while O’Neal P. Cortez was the Top Earning Jockey of the Year (P43,648,942.02). The 9th Mayor Bagatsing Cup was awarded the Most Successful Racing Festival of 2017 following total earnings of P40,008,998.00, with former Rep. Amado S. Bagatsing on hand to receive the award. On the other hand, the Metro Manila Turf Club in Malvar, Batangas was judged as Racing Club of the Year with gross sales of P2,476,727,344. Atty. Alexander Carandang, head of Metro Turf’s Corporate Affairs and Member of the Board of Directors, received the title. Lastly, the Manila Jockey Club Inc. in Carmona, Cavite, was named Racing Club of the Year Based on Prizes with an Average Horse Prize of P135,223.78. MJCI president and CEO Atty. Alfonso Victorio G. Reyno III received the award.
