Palace denounces 'senseless killing' of Batocabe

By Argyll Cyrus Geducos Malacañang assured that no stone will be left unturned to get to the bottom of the "senseless killing" of Ako-Bicol partylist Representative Rodel Batocabe Saturday afternoon. Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo made the statement after it was reported that Batocabe and his security escort SPO1 Orlando Diaz were killed by still unidentified gunmen while he was at a gift-giving activity in Daraga, Albay. Rodel Batocabe in Albay this afternoon," Panelo said Saturday. "Proper authorities are now investigating this brazen murder as we vow to leave no stone unturned in bringing the perpetrators of this felonious act to justice," he added. While assuring that justice will be served, Panelo also extended Malacañang's condolences to the family and loved ones of the slain lawmaker. "The Palace likewise expresses its deep condolences to his bereaved family, his loved ones, as well as his friends and colleagues in Congress during this moment of great grief," he said. Batocabe and Diaz were rushed to the hospital following the shooting but were declared dead upon arrival. Batocabe was a member of the House committee on dangerous drugs, and other committees such as on health, energy, tourism, and good government and public accountability among others.
